This race number background is a blank black or white gloss vinyl panel that goes behind your race numbers on a car door. Numbers are not included. It is a 50 × 36 cm rectangle with slightly rounded corners, cut from plain, solid-colour, self-adhesive vinyl, so the numbers you add on top are easy to read for timekeepers and photographers.

What is a race number background, and who is it for?

It is a plain, solid-colour vinyl panel that goes behind your race numbers so they stand out. It is blank: numbers are not included.

  • Typical uses: circuit racing, rally and rallysprint, motorkhana, hillclimb, track days, club events and drag racing.
  • It is also used on karts with flat panels, and for a show or retro race-car look.
  • It is usually fitted to the doors, and can also go behind numbers on a bonnet or roof.
  • Fit the panel first, then apply your race numbers on top.
What size is the panel, and will it suit my event?

The panel is 50 × 36 cm (width × height), a rectangle with slightly rounded corners, sized like the common Australian door-number panels.

  • Motorsport Australia (formerly CAMS) events set number sizes, so check your category and event supplementary regulations, and ask your scrutineer, before you order.
  • Required sizes and colours differ between categories and events, so please confirm yours before you buy.
  • The size is for the panel only. Your race numbers are separate.

Should I choose a black or white panel?

Choose the opposite of your number colour: a white panel for black numbers, or a black panel for white numbers.

  • Both colours are gloss vinyl.
  • Pick Black or White with the Colour option on this page.
  • Some categories and events set required colours, so check yours before you choose.
Do I need one panel or a pair?

A pair (2 pieces) covers both doors, and 1 piece covers a single door or panel.

  • Choose Pair (2 pieces) for a matching panel on each side of the car.
  • Choose 1 piece if you only need one door, or a panel for the bonnet or roof.
  • Both panels in a pair are the colour you pick with the Colour option.
What is the panel made from, and does it come off again?

It is cut from 7-year outdoor gloss vinyl in a single colour, and it removes cleanly when it's time to change numbers.

  • Self-adhesive, single-colour cut vinyl with a gloss finish.
  • Black or white only, with no printed design.
  • When your numbers change, peel the panel off and fit a new one.
How do I fit the panel?

Fit it to a clean, dry, smooth panel, then apply your race numbers on top once the panel is on.

  • Wash the panel, then wipe it with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry.
  • Avoid fitting below about 10 °C.
  • Position the panel with a masking-tape hinge, peel the backing off gradually and squeegee from the centre outwards.
  • Avoid deep body lines and sharp curves.
  • Wait 48 hours before washing.
  • Apply your numbers on top once the panel is fitted.

No. The panel is blank, so race numbers are not included. It is made to order in Australia by OZ DECO and sent by tracked parcel post within Australia.
